Speaking up for better outcomes
The independent Queensland Mental Health and Drug Advisory Council acts as a champion for people living with mental health issues, problems related to alcohol and other drug use, or impacted by suicide.
The Council was established by the Queensland Mental Commission Act 2013. The Council’s functions are to:
- provide advice to the Commission on mental health or substance misuse issues either on its own initiative or at the Commission’s request
- make recommendations to the Commission regarding the Commission’s functions.
Reflecting a diverse Queensland
Council members come from a wide range of backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the Queensland community.
The Council brings together knowledge, skills and experience of mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues including:
- people with lived experience
- families, carers and support persons
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders
- people living in rural and remote areas of Queensland
- culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- service providers and academia.
Membership
Members of the Advisory Council are appointed for up to three years, to ensure both continuity and renewal of the Council. Read about Advisory Council Members, including current and former members.
Terms of Reference
The Queensland Mental Health Commission Act 2013 sets out the Council’s functions, membership, conduct of business and relationship with the Commission.
