Professor Brett Emmerson is a psychiatrist and is currently a medical member of the Queensland Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT).
Brett brings to the Council his extensive experience and knowledge of mental health service delivery and system reform.
He has been managing mental health services since 1987 as Chief Psychiatrist (1990-1994), the Director for the Logan Mental Health Service (1994-1997), the Executive Director, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) Mental Health Service (1997-2009), and Executive Director for Metro North Mental Health (2009- 2022).
His current professional appointments include:
- Chair, Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Queensland
- Professor, RBWH Clinical Unit, University of Queensland
- Part time Staff Specialist (Pre-eminent status), Metro North Mental Health
- Boards Director, Councillor and Assessor, Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS).
In 2017, Brett was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant service to psychiatry, medical administration and for his contributions to mental health groups.
