Queenslander wins top honour

Brisbane man Dr Taher Forotan has won the National Pride of Australia Fair Go Medal. Dr Forotan arrived in Australia in late 1999 as an asylum seeker. He now helps new Australians suffering mental health issues resulting from their refugee experience or persecution in their homeland.

Since 2001 he has worked for the Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma (QPASTT) where he provides practical, emotional and psychological support for victims of torture and refugee-related trauma.
