Carers Week 2014 provides an opportunity for everyone in Australia to ‘Take a Break’ and recognise and celebrate Australia’s carers.
This year, Carers Week takes place from 12 – 18 October, and events will be taking place across the nation to celebrate the contribution of Australia’s 2.6 million carers.
Unpaid carers make an extraordinary contribution to our society, providing 1.32 billion hours of care annually at an estimated replacement value of $40.9 billion.
When a person becomes a carer for a family member or friend, their lives can change dramatically. Unpaid family carers experience one of the lowest rates of health and well-being in Australia. Carers are the cornerstone of Australia’s mental health, aged, disability and palliative care systems. Without the support of unpaid family carers these systems would simply collapse.
Carers Week is about recognising and celebrating unpaid carers to help build a stronger, more inclusive and sustainable Australia.
So join Carers Queensland this Carers Week and show your support for Queensland’s amazing, dedicated carers and champion what they do!
