17 June 2015 - Mental Health Week Corporate Workplace Achievement Awards

19 May 2015

In partnership with Open Minds Australia, we are pleased to announce the Mental Health Week Corporate Workplace Achievement Awards launch on 17 June 2015 from 12pm at the Brisbane Marriott Hotel.

The awards lunch will include MC Kathy McLeish from ABC News Brisbane and guest speaker David Cooke, Managing Director of Konica Minolta in Australia.

Guest Speaker

David Cooke is the first non-Japanese Managing Director of Konica Minolta in Australia, a subsidiary of the global Japanese technology company Konica Minolta Inc. which was founded 140 years ago.

David received an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management at the UNSW in 2000 and also went on to complete a doctorate at Southern Cross University in 2008 titled The philanthropic contract: building social capital through corporate social investment.

At the lunch David will share his passion for the importance of wellness in the workplace and how his appointment as Managing Director gave him the opportunity to introduce much-needed changes in the workplace environment that he believes are of the upmost importance in creating engaged team members.

Background

Research released last year found that while Australian workers were more likely to know the symptoms for mental health problems than their European counterparts, they were far less likely to disclose their condition to their employer. Only 55% of Australian workers would inform their employer if they required time off for mental health problems, compared to 72% in Europe.

While large Australian businesses are providing far better support for their workers than large European businesses, more needs to be done with small and medium-sized businesses in Australia. Australia is way ahead on many fronts including in the youth sector, but we still have a long way to go with wellness-workplace initiatives.

Our challenge is to ensure that Australian workplaces are better equipped to support people experiencing emotional health problems.

Cost: $125 per person ($1250 for a table of 10)
