19 Dec 2019

The Queensland Mental Health and Drug Advisory Council visited Rockhampton on 4-6 December for its final meeting for 2019.

The Council met at the Darambul Convention Centre within the beautiful local community Indigenous-led Dreamtime Cultural Centre, where Queensland Framework for the Development of the Mental Health Lived Experience Workforce lead researcher Dr Louise Byrne presented on the framework’s development, content and intent.

Council members visited two service providers, Darumbal Community Youth Services Inc and The Gumbi Gumbi.

Darumbal is an Indigenous-led community organisation that supports young people at risk of homelessness and engages via services such as sport and cultural connection, skill development and one-on-one support.

Gumbi Gumbi is an alcohol and other drug residential rehabilitation facility that provides culturally appropriate care and services via withdrawal, rehabilitation and women’s healing programs.

The Council also met with members of local PHN’s, the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service and NGOs to discuss regional issues and priorities.
