In 2016 the Commission funded three non-government organisations to pilot community mental health and wellbeing hubs.
The wellbeing hubs operated on the concept that communities, local networks, schools and workplaces were primary settings for improving mental health and wellbeing, with scope for capacity building and impact measurement.
The hubs initiative aimed to review and strengthen local responses and embed evidence-based mental health and wellbeing skills in each community.
Centacare Central Queensland, Relationships Australia, and Solas/Centacare North Queensland each took different approaches to building community wellbeing capacity in their regions.
The hub pilots conclude in December. CQ Wellbeing Hubs Inc launched in November to continue the work of the pilot in the Blackwater, Capella/Tieri and Sapphire/Gemfields areas.
The three Mental Health and Wellbeing Hubs organisations have made significant contributions to their communities, improving wellbeing through innovative design and reducing stigma surrounding mental illness. Each hub succeeded in embedding wellbeing skills across a variety of communities that rose to the challenge of growing and sustaining their own wellbeing.
The Commission is reviewing the evaluation of the hub pilot.
