Every second year the conference 'Out of the Box: Conversation, Creativity and Change' is held in the Wide Bay Burnett region for consumers, families and carers and clinical or community based services.
This year the Mental Health Commissioner had the opportunity to attend and speak at the conference at the beginning of April in Maryborough.
Events like these are valuable opportunities for the Commission to engage with consumers, family members, carers and mental health professionals and hear their different perspectives. This conference in particular was impressive in how interactive it was and the range and amount of stakeholders from the region in attendance. This allowed some key concerns to be raised and the Commission is committed to addressing these issues, particularly in regards to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the need for better engagement with drug and alcohol consumers, families and carers.
