Grants totalling $85,000 are available to communities across the State to host Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) community awareness events.
Individual grants up to $2,500 are now open to local government, non-government and community groups hosting events and activities during QMHW, from 8-14 October 2017.
Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Cameron Dick said the grants complimented the work being done by the Palaszczuk Government to support Mental Health in Queensland.
“Mental Health Week provides an opportunity to promote positive mental health, and these grants will improve the community's ability to engage in activities all across Queensland,” Mr Dick said.
Queensland Mental Health Commissioner Ivan Frkovic said the new grant program is funded by the Queensland Mental Health Commission and managed by the Commission’s partner, the Queensland Alliance for Mental Health (QAMH).
“Mental health week is about valuing our mental health and promoting positive mental health and wellbeing for all Queenslanders,” Mr Frkovic said.
“QMHW events and activities help create understanding of mental illness, and celebrate the lives and contribution of people living with mental illness, including family, carers and supporters.
“Each year we’re blown away by the creativity and impact of events across the State that reach out to, inspire and educate Queenslanders about mental health and wellbeing,” Mr Frkovic said.
QAMH Chief Executive Officer Kris Trott said the Community Event Grant program contributes toward hosting better, more informative and effective events and activities in QMHW.
“The grants offset expenses such as engaging specialists for workshops or seminars, venue and equipment hire, refreshments, and printing or photocopying of information resources,” Ms Trott said.
“The whole community can get involved and benefit from discussions about good mental health. We want people from every corner of the State to participate.”
Grant Application Forms and Application Guidelines are available on the QAMH, QMHW and Queensland Mental Health Commission websites.
Events must be registered on the QMHW website, which also includes a range of event ideas, information and resources.
Grant applications close at 5.00pm on Friday 1 September 2017.
