The FASD FORUM ’24 is presented by NOFASD Australia with the support of Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.

The theme of the conference, “Celebrating 25 Years, Finding the Silver Lining”, reflects the fact that NOFASD Australia is celebrating its Silver Anniversary, having been founded in 1999 by Sue Miers, AM.

The conference will provide an opportunity to reflect on what progress has been made in the past 25 years in terms of FASD awareness, support services for FASD and research findings which offer hope for the future. Presentations will focus on topics that we know are of key concern to those impacted by FASD, and will be aimed to provide information to assist in improving life outcomes by providing insights into evidence-based approaches and strategies that can assist.

The FASD Forum ’24 provides a carefully curated selection of presentations covering topics of key interest to the FASD community and an opportunity to hear both from experts leading research as well as experts with lived experience.

Topics

Topics included in the conference program include:

  • Education – strategies that can assist teachers and parents of students of all ages to support their success in the classroom.
  • Self-care for parents and caregivers – how do you enable this for yourself?
  • Violence and abusive behaviour directed at caregivers by the individual for whom they are caring.
  • How do you prepare for your child’s transition to adulthood? What supports might you consider enabling in advance?
  • Returning by popular demand, the “Three-Minute Thesis” session, sponsored by the FASD Hub Australia, provides an opportunity to hear directly from those researching FASD about research results and findings which offer promise for the future.
