Lived experience perspective on physical health care: Summary report, June 2021
People with a lived experience of mental illness and problematic alcohol and other drug use can also experience poor physical health. Studies show they may have a poorer health status, lower quality of life and reduced life expectancy because of preventable illness and chronic disease.
This paper highlighted the outcomes of an extensive analysis of the current policy content and impact of the current system on the physical health of people with lived experience. The paper recommended a number of reform opportunities aimed to improve the physical health of people with a lived experience of mental illness and problematic alcohol and other drug
(AOD) use.
